The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 英法百年战争背景下，真实历史中女性意识觉醒主题故事。大本和马特达蒙再一次合作改编剧本，雷老爷子执导…影片这摄影宛如中世纪风景油画一般灵动优美！剧本则非常“狡诈”，利用大男子主义和普信男形象两位男主角的自白段落铺垫，来强烈衬托出女主角女性意识觉醒的可贵！从而让观众切身体会到中世纪封建社会下女性的悲惨命运，又由此引发对当下的思考。唯一美中不足的是——影片结尾处的演员排序上，制片方还是把女主角朱迪科默放在了第三位…所以我给4星…
中世纪ME TOO故事，竟然还是真的，这三段罗生门结构是真的精彩，细节里层层推进，把这几个男人的嘴脸扒拉得干干净净，应该是这几年看过最好的“女性”电影，感谢几位为此“牺牲”的知名男性演员~~和全能雷爷。
用了倒叙以及分三组人物线重现了三次不同当事人角度的强奸案，角度却很单一。决斗很精彩，中世纪下黑暗的男尊女卑一面让人看得生气，但导演好像只对Jodie comer情有独钟，唯独对她演绎的角色做了立体的塑造，其他两位男演员都硬生生成了完成情节推动指标的配角。可是他们难道不值得也深度剖析一下吗？丈夫明明在处于劣势下为何能反败为胜，那个用真爱来升华自己一分钟火烈鸟猥琐行为的强奸男又是出于什么心态最终不敌矮个丈夫被一剑封喉的？老妈是旧社会制度下默默承受他人罪恶的受害者，当儿媳妇站出来发声，儿子赢战后她又是什么状态？闺蜜之后是否有所感触？都刻画太少了。显得整部电影变成了女主一人独角戏。但事实上她能存活下来，丈夫是至关重要的，本来可给四星，这些欠缺只能给三星了，有点可惜了。
拍得四平八稳，结构冗余无效。决斗刺激过瘾，中世纪质感出彩。
赌上所有捍卫真相，即使虚伪和暴力横行，这世界从不是你的世界，即使稍有不慎就会粉身碎骨，即使你周围没有同类只有男权的傀儡，即使没有人在乎胜利并不属于你。错就是错，罪恶就是罪恶，丑陋就是丑陋，你不是父亲的筹码、丈夫的财产、生育的机器，不是逆来顺受者，你该有思考、表达、捍卫尊严的权利。当你说不的时候，就是拒绝。
7.0/10。①男主朋友上了男主的妻子，因此男主要求与他朋友进行一场生死决斗。影片通过罗生门式的叙事结构从三种角度（每个当事人各一种）叙述了这个案件的全过程，每种角度的细节皆有所不同。其中妻子的视角最重要，因为它揭示了她在过程中是如何沦为两个男人争夺的“物品”。②结尾决斗男主赢了，但他妻子没有。③最后的生死决斗处理（剪辑调度音响等）地很好；摄影美术都很精良；叙事结构也可称巧妙；但作为传统故事片叙事节奏太拖。
故事并不复杂，3个主观视角最后归于一处，也没有什么惊喜和反转，因为从第二个视角一开始，观众就明白是什么套路了，还以为第三个视角会有什么不同，结果依然是不痛不痒的重复了一遍。……唯一好看的就是最后的决斗，足够残忍血腥。……本片的罗生门不同于黑泽明的谎言，而是主观意识的真实，加上一点叙诡，完全撑不起2个半小时的张力。……观众又不傻，导演这种方式的确搞砸了，1亿美金陈本，票房2700万美金，就别怪观众不识货了。
中世纪的外衣，现代化的内核，总觉得有些怪怪的。女主“小变态”的形象太深入，时刻让人觉得要自己拔剑上场砍翻男二
印象中正经描绘中世纪生活的电影不多
罗生门式叙事结构，但珠玉在前，何况比起黑泽明之作，剧本和剪辑都逊色了不少，整体上显得没有太亮眼了。后来才知道 原来是一部女性主义电影。

今年最佳，特别是在这个两性议题高涨的当下，又镀上一层特别的含义。处处是隐喻，处处是真实，回味无穷。
讲真我是误认为这个是星战系列才点进去的，于是前两段男人撒谎我都看到悃着了，但被女主的凄厉吼起来，认真看完第三段:决斗很好看☜时刻代入当年红毒蛇作死场面，善用膝盖那里抓紧做了笔记。字幕出来才发现竟然是老爹神作！难怪史诗感这么强烈，而女主在killing Eve中的表现总让我分分钟出戏✘觉得她应该一脚踹开老公『放着我来』！就把强奸犯和塑料小姐妹都碎成渣
庆幸如今社会有进步。然鹅感觉两个男主活到了现在。
雷老爷随随便便回归他最擅长的题材，就做得比今年那堆奥斯卡提名的都要好，真是搞笑。

现代人视角下的中世纪metoo故事，我所看过最为残忍和有力的故事之一。She said he said的剧本框架聪明且不失层次，许多配角着墨不多却铿锵有力。指控之尖锐让人很难想象这是Ridley Scott一个84岁的人拍的，所有年龄不及他思想先进程度也不及他的都应该好好反省一下自己。
老雷的野心再度回顾，这个题材他驾轻就熟。好演员们之间的戏剧张力十足。
