The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 是非常老派的故事，可能和大家的预期不一样，布莱德利和凯特布兰切特的对手戏没有多少，这剧情也不太有明显的高潮，但是我挺喜欢的，跟原版一样讲宿命论，讲人生的起起落落，比原片还多了弑父的原罪、从一开始就交代了geek一直到最后轮回呼应，改掉了当初为了上映弄出来的画蛇添足大团圆结局

现在这种电影真的是不多见了，难怪斯科塞斯老爷子认为大家应该去看一看。我确实是守旧，这种近乎手艺人的感觉，cult电影的气质，真是太戳我了。说回电影本身，也就是说，这个lowlife，不管怎样，最后他都是piece of shit，因为他没法控制自己的欲望，克服自己的弱点。highborn也不是因为克服得住自己的弱点而成为highborn的，人性中有无法克服的欲望和弱点。社会有运行的规则，拒绝相信有什么命定

大导不愧是大导，能把这么一个cult片题材的故事，讲得这么传奇。大魔王凯特布兰切特和布莱德利库伯的演技很赞，尤其是库伯，结尾崩溃的哭笑触人心弦，凌晨两点看完久久难以释怀。

为情怀买单，看完了才知道还有下部。时长很短，片尾出来我以为看错了。。
破茧成蝶时的糟污，大厦将倾时的优雅，人物以一种阅后即焚用后即弃的决绝状态闪现纠缠。对陀螺而言，童话不是底色，而是血统，是故事开枝散叶时必须汲取的养分，也是落地生根时不得不背叛的枷锁。
我并不觉得有那么糟糕，首先视觉效果就非常好，不是普通导演能企及的水平；卡司非常豪华，并且我也不觉得演得很糟糕，除了库珀比较弱，三位女演员都是高水平发挥。我觉得最大的问题是编剧吧，这个故事在四几年是个奇情片，放到现在则显得愚蠢无比，人物动机都不成立，这也出现了很多人说看不懂，实际不是看不懂，是不相信怎么会这么简单，这么简单的骗人，这么简单的受骗，简单到令人不敢相信。编剧在保留故事框架的基础上，应该狠狠地打磨一番，但很明显这个环节偷了懒，把功夫都用在了视觉上，这么现代的美学和这么陈乏的故事是完全不搭的呀，所以凯特的表演再怎么精彩，但没故事支撑，也显得无比空洞！
后面煞有介事，却没推起来，前面长的没有必要，总之就没啥意思
拍得那么的平淡苍白，前面马戏团演了那么多，到后面才正式进入正题，像两个不同味道的瓜各切开一半，然后各自安好，毫无交代。凯特布兰切特在该片又充分展现了她做作矫情的30年代百老汇演技风格。小白兔演技依然在线，但这部剧里几乎所有有实力的演员都跟着无聊的剧情黯然失色，打算重温1947版的了
演技派明星堆砌起来的警世寓言，有点不合时宜的味道。前半段马戏团情节，导演再次使出华丽怪诞的美学风格，相比之下后半段转向大都市的黑色电影情节便显得生硬尴尬了。从塔罗牌到读心术，再到通灵术，你可以欺骗全世界，却骗不了自己，因为你内心就是一个怪人。首尾呼应的结构展现出一个怪人诞生的历程，暗中与主人公大起大落的命运契合。

好失望啊，而且真的拖沓，从怪人反复被提及开始就已经预示着并且可以猜到结局了…
