The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 铺垫很长，没有营造出氛围。而是让我觉得无聊。。 女主来到了男主的国家鸟国，都讲鸟语语言不通。偶尔有年轻人说英语可以沟通。男主天天要去工作。女主偶尔配男主聚餐。自己只能无聊一个人在城市闲逛。但是她突然发现家对面楼里会站着一个男人一直看着自己。看不清。但是跟对方招手，对方竟然也招手。女主十分害怕。草木皆兵。去看电影也觉得后面坐的人跟踪自己。去超市也有人跟踪自己。吓得后面溜走。男主耐着性子跟女主去超市查监控，拍下了照片。并且报警让警察和男主去看看那个男人是不照片里的。男主回来表示女主无理取闹，就算是，也只是邻居去同一个超市买东西很正常。然而一切是因为男主女主逛街路过凶案现场。电视也报道说有个连续杀人魔杀了四个女性，还割头。女主反向跟踪发现住对面的人是一个酒吧清洁工。刚好里面一个舞女是自己邻居。
氛围挺好 就是有点假 那个丈夫 还有最后的割喉
还不错的小成本电影，不需要理由，只为变态而杀人。
我挺喜欢这个结局的。脖子上侧面那么一划拉，感觉不深也不长，没死可能性是挺高的，何况多爽啊，不被相信的狼来了就该有这样的结局。放过他再死几个没人相信的“神经病”吗？爽片。（没有女权的意思，就老公不信任不陪伴还拿老婆开玩笑再装无奈太垃圾了）
始终有一种压抑感，氛围很好，故事线不复杂，但总觉得缺点啥，缺点啥呢？？那个邻居太可怜了.....
坏蛋也太像坏蛋了，以及害怕的通常都是真实存在的，这个恶人本身带来的恐惧感远远不及所有人对她说的话嗤之以鼻的态度。
异国他乡，语言不通的设定，加强了被跟踪的惊悚感，剧情挺精致的，只是双方的冲突张力做的不够强，像女邻居，寓所老太，房东等角色，没利用起来，本来变态男最早是偷窥女邻居，女主来了后因为比较敏感，激起了变态男的注意，隔壁街区还刚刚发生女性凶案，这些元素都没有编织好，戏剧性没推到顶，点到为止，导致女主与变态的交锋，都在意料之中，结尾的翻转也有点超现实了，仿佛女主在说:他妈的老公，要你有何用！
感觉是在扩大女性的社会焦虑啊，大可不必吧。。。
#Sundance 2022# 视听语言以及故事结构方面算是目前看到的午夜单元里最出色的一部了…
为了让剧情合理，特意安排了女主去到外国生活！这女主说坚持吧，她也坚持了，说她艮吧，她也挺艮！她都能带男友去调超市监控，就不能去调电影院监控？反正一天没啥事就不能去对面楼下角落蹲两天看看能不能等到那个变态？要手机干啥，拍点照片留作证据不行吗？偏要走那种明知道是鬼片还硬要晚上独自行动的剧本，这多少是有点彪吧？3星其实是给整体，还是不错的，这个变态演的不错，挺瘆人！
情节简单，全靠氛围。设定在罗马尼亚，虽然有服务剧情的一定的合理性，但还是会让人联想到，制作方是不是多少带点对某些东欧国家的偏见。
结尾到男主与杀人犯各自离开房间后在走廊四目相对那刻就可以结束了。
最后要是加一段离婚毅然决然回美国的片段，我会再➕一⭐
能猜到头的故事，让我想到了门锁，不过比门锁好看，简单不一定是坏事。
没一点意思。女主角演的跟精神病一样，遇到问题不主动处理，自己吓自己。男主角怂样一个，整个房子难道不知道安个窗帘？恐怖依赖病人的演技，剧情都不是来自正常人的视角！
这剧情70多分钟可以完的，铺垫太长，浪费时间。
这比去年那部《偷窥者》差得太远了。那部悬疑和反转，复古风和社会议题都完成得不错，这有个啥？个别构图尚可，色调有点倾颓之美，其他也就没了吧？
在被强奸，被杀，被消失之前，多少女孩子是把希望寄托在男朋友，丈夫，警察身上？这电影值得一看！悲剧发生时就来不及了。
